Phoenix (June 19, 2002) - Lisa Atkins is the first candidate in the District Two Congressional race to sign the Americans for Tax Reform Pledge.
"The average household in this country pays more in taxes than it does for food, housing and clothing combined. Clearly something is wrong. We not only need lower taxes, but a simpler and fairer tax system," Atkins said.
Atkins pledge was signed and witnessed by Congressman Bob Stump and President of Americans for Tax Reform, Grover Norquist.
"I am a friend of the taxpayer," Atkins said. "Strengthening Arizona's economy through job creation and reduction of tax burdens on individuals and small businesses will be my top priorities as a Congressman."
Americans for Tax Reform is a non-partisan coalition of taxpayers and taxpayer groups who oppose all federal and state tax increases. ATR organizes the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, which asks all federal and state candidates to commit themselves in writing to opposing all tax increases.
